SKIMMED MILK MAY CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN

Skimmed Milk May Cause Weight Gain
On the contrary, drinking skimmed milk might ultimately result in you piling on the pounds, according to a study published in JAMA Pediatrics.
Popular wisdom holds that drinking skimmed milk allows people to reap the benefits of whole milk - such as Vitamin D, calcium and protein - without the unwanted fat and calories.
But while skimmed milk is unquestionably lower in calories, that does not necessarily translate to an overall reduced calorie intake, the study found.
Reduce-fat foods tend to be less filling, meaning there is a danger that people compensate by eating and drinking in greater quantity.
“Our original hypothesis was that children who drank high fat milk, either whole milk or 2%, would be heavier because they were consuming more saturated fat calories,” said study co-author Dr Mark Daniel DeBoer, of the University of Virgina School of Medicine.
However, there is precious little evidence to back up the idea that skimmed milk promotes weight loss or management, according to co-authors David Ludwig, of Boston’s Children Hospital, and Dr Walter Willett, of the Harvard School of Public Health.
The study reinforces the findings of previous research which showed that those who drank low fat milk had a higher chance of being overweight later on in life, according to Time Magazine
